Art students at John McGregor Secondary School launched “The Last Straw” project, aiming to raise awareness about the environmental damage caused by plastic waste. Inspired by local artist Mark Rinehart, the project addresses issues like garbage accumulation, forever plastics, greenwashing, and environmental injustice. The project includes a miniature house created from discarded plastic waste to symbolize the severity of the problem. Students also wrote a letter to their MP calling for a ban on single-use plastics and a Global Plastics Treaty. The project aims has plans for expansion to other schools.
