The power of tracking plastic waste using an app
Empower, a Norwegian circular start-up, is the creator of a platform that uses blockchain technology to track, register, and sell plastic waste locally and internationally. The company has recently partnered with Dow to conduct a study to examine the feasibility of scaling plastic circular value chains in Nigeria and across Africa. Users of the platform can input the collection information to trace, manage, and certify the waste collected to be sold and recycled. By crowdsourcing the collection of plastic, the platform allows individuals to create an additional income stream while keeping plastics out of the ocean and landfills.
