University of Illinois researchers develop Circularity Index scale to measure sustainability
Researchers at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign have come up with a tool called the Circularity Index (CI). It helps us measure how “circular” or sustainable different systems are, providing a quantitative basis for comparing different systems or practices. The CI score ranges from 0 to 1, with 0 indicating that the system is completely linear (use once, throw away). And 1 indicating that the system is fully circular (everything is recycled and reused). The scale evaluates eight categories: take, make, distribute, use, dispose, recover, remake, and reuse. Read more about the Circularity Index.
