Canadian Beverage Container Recycling Association ends the Recycle Everywhere program in Ontario

This article was updated on September 27, 2023, to further clarify the impacts of this change on beverage container producers.

Under Ontario’s Blue Box Regulation, producers who supply beverage containers into the province are obligated to collect and manage them. Most Blue Box producers rely on the services of producer responsibility organizations (PROs) to meet these regulatory obligations.

The Canadian Beverage Container Recycling Association (CBCRA) was among the PROs supporting producers to meet their management requirements through the Recycle Everywhere program. The program was introduced to collect non-alcoholic beverage containers disposed of outside the common collection system on behalf of non-alcoholic beverage container producers in Ontario.

In July 2023, CBCRA decided to halt plans to operate its Recycle Everywhere program in Ontario. As such, CBCRA has been removed as a registered Blue Box PRO on RPRA’s website.

What does this mean for Blue Box producers who supply beverage containers?

Going forward, Circular Materials, a registered Blue Box PRO, will assume responsibility of management requirements for their beverage container producer members that were also signed up with CBCRA. This means Circular Materials will report on 2023 management requirements for beverage containers for their producer members. If you have questions about this change, please reach out to Circular Materials at info@circularmaterials.ca.

This change does not impact beverage container producers that are signed up with either H2 Compliance or Ryse Solutions Ontario as their PRO. These PROs will continue to help meet their clients’ management requirements.

For beverage container producers who have not yet signed up with a PRO, our website has information about working and signing up with any of the PROs to help meet their requirements.
