New tech could allow chewing to charge hearing aid batteries

Researchers have found that movements of the jaw can be captured as a renewable and alternative energy source that might be able to power hearing aids. Whenever we eat, speak or yawn, the movement of our jaw deforms the ear canal. By modelling the deformations of the ear canal, the created energy can be converted and stored. Prototypes are still being developed to convert enough energy to power these devices, to allow for economic and environmental savings in battery consumption. Read more.
