Questions about the Tires Program?
We have answers! Read our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) here.
Haulers (transporters), retreaders and processors are often referred to as service providers.
- A tire hauler is a person that arranges for the transport of tires used in Ontario that are destined for processing, reuse, retreading or disposal. This does not include a person who arranges for the transport of tires initially generated by that same person.
- A tire retreader is a person that replaces the tread on worn tires with a new tread so that they can continue to be used as tires.
- A tire processor is a person that processes tires collected in Ontario for the purposes of resource recovery or disposal. Processing means you are transforming tires into their basic materials, including by shredding, chipping, grinding, cutting or cryogenic crushing. Processing also includes activities designed to chemically alter tires, such as depolymerization.
